SwimEx pools are everwhere—in houses, hospitals, professional team training facilities, veterinarian clinics and physical therapy centers.

And in 2013, a Swim

Ex 500 OS will be sitting on the deck of one of the world’s most beautiful superyachts.

Famed Italian ship builder Perini Navi is installing a SwimEx 500 OS on its C2189, the 240-foot/73m flagship of the Picchiotti Vitruvius superyacht series. The C2189 will feature a plumb line bow for reduced hydrodynamic drag, as well as a sushi bar, gym, sauna, steam bath and hydrotherapy equipment.

See it here and read more about it here.

Given that the yacht’s range will allow it to visit the most far-flung locations on the planet, the onboard SwimEx will be customized for rough seas. It will feature a quick-draining system in case of a storm, as well as oversized heaters to warm the water quickly. The pool is also fitted with additional underwater lights and standard massage jets.

Imagine swimming laps in the SwimEx’s smooth current while lights from Monte Carlo, Amalfi or Rio de Janeiro dapple the water around you. If you’re lucky enough to be aboard the Picchiotti Vitruvius C2189, your dreams may turn real…

SwimEx. Go with the Flow.

Patient surveys consistently recognize the care and compassion shown by the staff.
About SwimEx 600T:

The SwimEx 600T aquatic therapy pool is a multi-depth pool, adjustable to depths of four and five feet. This unit features eight distinct workout stations, including, plyometric pads, open and closed kinetic exercise benches and steps, and an angled running platform. The treadmill simulator (40-degree angled pad) allows the patient to begin running in a limited weight-bearing environment and the adjustable floor allows the physical therapist to gradually increase weight-bearing activities to allow a smooth transition to land. This aquatic therapy pool circulates over 30,000 gallons of laminar water flow per minute – creating a wall of water that generates over 40 water speeds ranging from 0 to 6.5 mph. The patented SwimEx water current creates an ideal environment for strength training and functional activities during all phases of the rehabilitation program. Six tethering ports allow the physical therapist to lock in the patient during non-weight-bearing protocols.

Fall River, Mass – “This is just like having a spa in your house!” Karen Hurvitz is another happy SwimEx customer. She recently installed a swim spa in her new Concord, Massachusetts home. “It keeps you in shape. I use it every day,” says Karen.

Her first experience with a swim-in-place pool was during a visit to Hong Kong fifteen years ago, “I loved it!” But back home, Karen had a tough time incorporating swimming into her daily exercise routine. ”I didn’t like going to the gym pool or dealing with dirty locker rooms. Meanwhile, the town’s public didn’t offer many open swim hours.”

Frustrated with limited lap pool options, she started researching in-home therapy pools. Karen says SwimEx was the most appealing brand due to its quality and smooth current, “one of the advantages with a SwimEx was the quality and the width of the current. Another plus, I don’t have to bother with a lot of harsh chemicals and ventilation.”

Aquatic therapy paid off quickly for Karen after she tore her (ACL) anterior cruciate ligament during a skiing accident. Tears almost always require surgery, but Karen was determined to avoid going under the knife, “I decided not to undergo surgery and rehab it. I found that swimming exercised it enough and my leg felt really good.”

Today, she alternates her daily swim with her favorite exercises: breaststroke, freestyle and running. According to Vice President of Sales Suzanne Marchetti, she joins the growing number of retired homeowners turning to SwimEx for a stress-free workout.

Because she loves her SwimEx so much, Karen recently purchased her second pool and installed it in her new home.

About Swim Ex:

“Maintenance is extremely easy. I test the water weekly, rarely have to adjust the pH but I do add an oxidizer and a clarifying agent on alternate weeks. The pool stays crystal clear. We did build an addition to our house with a walk-in full basement. The pool room is now probably our most popular room.”

“Unless we are traveling, the pool typically gets used 6 days out of 7.”

“Bottom Line: A fantastic purchase. We’d do it again in a minute!”

The purpose of this article is to propose creation of a consistent, measureable 12-week aquatic exercise progression for individuals diagnosed with asthma. An aquatic exercise option not requiring swim skills may offer real value, but no previous literature explicitly describes a standardized nonswimming aquatic exercise progression. Participants were diagnosed: medically managed asthmatics in a rural community. Guidelines set forth by AEA and ACSM were used in the development of the exercise program and progression. By the end of the 12 weeks, instructors were challenging participants with multilevel travel sets and complex timed sequences, meeting programmatic goals for exercise intensity progression. In conclusion, this 12-week aquatic exercise protocol could effectively be prescribed by aquatic exercise specialists to increase physical activity in an asthmatic population. The design may be used in research studies as a consistent and measurable treatment protocol.

Regular swimmers are less like to catch a cold this winter and will suffer less severe symptoms, according to new research.

In a report published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, scientists from North Carolina found adults physically active on five or more days a week suffered from cold-like symptoms almost half as frequently as those exercising once a week or less.

“Exercise like swimming is fantastic for reducing stress which helps maintain a healthy body.”

The study, which tracked 1,002 adults between 18 and 85-years old over a 12-week period, also found the severity of the symptoms fell by 41% for those who felt fittest and 31% for those who were the most physically active.

The researchers said the results were due to a temporary rise in immune system cells every time the body exercises which led to an increased resistance to viruses and bacteria.

Aerobic exercise and perceived fitness were the most significant factors measured while eating fruit was also linked with a lower frequency of colds.

And ASA Exercise Scientist Ian Freeman admitted eating a meal rich in protein and fibrous carbohydrates immediately after exercise was the best way to maximise immune function.

“Your immune system actually dips during exercise but then raises to a higher level over time,” said Freeman. “Exercise like swimming is fantastic for reducing stress which helps maintain a healthy body.

“But eating the right foods at the right time is also important. Lean protein is excellent for boosting your immune system function and fresh fruit and vegetables will also certainly help.”

Aquatic immersion has been reported to produce a significant number of physiological changes in blood pressure, heart rate variability (HRV), autonomic nervous system (ANS), and core temperature in young healthy subjects. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of water immersion in younger and older populations, determining whether there are age related differences for ANS regulation measures in cool, neutral, and warm water. Vitals and ANS measures were collected from two samples representing different age-groups in the general population. It was found that water immersion produced a significant number of important physiologic responses such as decreased blood pressure and increased SVB during the warm water cycle. These changes are important components of ANS bioregulation and clearly seem to be influenced by water temperature during immersion. There was a statistically significant relationship between ANS activity manifested by heart rate variability and water temperatures.

Swimming, water jogging, and aqua aerobics are lifetime physical activities that provide many health benefits comparable to those of walking and running. Research on the association between swimming and mortality is scarce, however. To evaluate the association between different types of physical activity and all-cause mortality, we studied 40,547 men age 20–90 years who completed a health examination during 1971–2003. Cox proportional-hazards regression was used to estimate the relative risks according to physical activity exposure categories. A total of 3,386 deaths occurred during 543,330 man-years of observation. After adjustment for age, body-mass index, smoking status, alcohol intake, and family history of cardiovascular disease, swimmers had 53%, 50%, and 49% lower all-cause mortality risk than did men who were sedentary, walkers, or runners, respectively (p < .05 for each). Additional adjustment for baseline prevalent diseases did not change the inverse association between different activities and all-cause mortality. In conclusion, swimmers had lower mortality rates than those who were sedentary, walkers, and runners.
