Ex 500 OS will be sitting on the deck of one of the world’s most beautiful superyachts.

Famed Italian ship builder Perini Navi is installing a SwimEx 500 OS on its C2189, the 240-foot/73m flagship of the Picchiotti Vitruvius superyacht series. The C2189 will feature a plumb line bow for reduced hydrodynamic drag, as well as a sushi bar, gym, sauna, steam bath and hydrotherapy equipment.

See it here and read more about it here.

Given that the yacht’s range will allow it to visit the most far-flung locations on the planet, the onboard SwimEx will be customized for rough seas. It will feature a quick-draining system in case of a storm, as well as oversized heaters to warm the water quickly. The pool is also fitted with additional underwater lights and standard massage jets.

Imagine swimming laps in the SwimEx’s smooth current while lights from Monte Carlo, Amalfi or Rio de Janeiro dapple the water around you. If you’re lucky enough to be aboard the Picchiotti Vitruvius C2189, your dreams may turn real…

SwimEx. Go with the Flow.

What do the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Lakers, Montreal Canadiens and Green Bay Packers have in common, besides the fact that they’re all professional sports franchises?
Answer: They all have SwimEx pools in their training facilities.
These teams, along with nearly 50 other professional franchises and more than 80 college sports programs, use the strong, deep current generated by SwimEx’s unique paddlewheel technology to provide physical therapy to their elite athletes.
Graham Rynbend, Head Athletic Trainer for the Montreal Canadiens, said the team’s SwimEx 900T equipped with an integrated treadmill is used daily to treat injured players during the hockey season.
“We put the athletes into the pool before they’re able to do any other exercises. Even if they’re on crutches, we can get them into the pool and get them moving and exercising, which speeds up their recovery,” Graham said.
Prior to installing the SwimEx, the club had only a hot tub for aqua-based therapy, Graham said. “The SwimEx is by far the most important therapy modality that we’ve added,” he said.
With an overall depth of 66 inches (167.6cm), the 900T features a second floor level creating anywhere from 42 inches to 54 inches (107cm to 137cm) in water depth. Therapy patients can utilize shallow rehab stations as well as deep-water exercises. The optional integrated treadmills give athletes the ability to begin running against the SwimEx’s “wall of water” without bearing their full weight.
Ed Lacerte, head athletic trainer of the Boston Celtics, said the deep well and workstations in the team’s SwimEx 700T provide an effective mixture of therapeutic options for recovering athletes.
“Our deep water well is particularly important to us. It allows for a totally non-weight-bearing environment. Utilizing the pool’s multiple water depths and various workstations, athletes of different sizes and heights and in all stages of injury recovery can run, swim, or complete prescribed therapeutic exercise programs against the current,” Ed said.
The ability to avoid placing stress on an injured joint while rehabbing in the strong current provided by SwimEx pools worked out well when Percy Harvin, a star running back for the 2009 national champion Florida Gators, suffered a high ankle sprain and associated hairline fracture. University of Florida assistant athletic training Kyle Johnston said Harvin said the team’s SwimEx 700T played a crucial role in Harvin’s recovery.
“We used the SwimEx to help him regain his range of motion and strength through active plantar/dorsi flexion and inversion/eversion exercises with the foot attachment. It was used to unload the joint as we progressed him into jogging/running, and we used it to maintain his cardiovascular fitness and introduce him to explosive movements through agility exercises with the aid of the water’s buoyancy,” Kyle said.
The 130-plus pro and college teams with SwimEx pools in their training facilities feature athletes of all heights and weights who suffer injuries of all kinds. But they share one thing: Reliance on their SwimEx therapeutic pools to help their athletes recover from injuries.
SwimEx. Go with the Flow.

The Outpatient Rehab Clinic at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Florida says utilizing the unique features of a SwimEx pool can add even more variety into exercise programs, to possibly further boost motor and sensory development.

According to Nicole McLain, DPT, “the pool provides a fun, safe alternative or addition to land based therapy. We can work on things like strengthening, stretching, balance, agility/coordination, swimming, diving under water, jumping and other gross motor skills. The warm water is soothing to the patient and allows for reduced muscle tone for children with high tone from neurologic origins or from muscle tightness.”

The SwimEx pool enables temperature and flow adjustments, helping to create ideal conditions for children, “It can be soothing and provide a sense of safety for some patients,” says Rosa Garcia, Pediatric Occupational Therapist at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. (Therapists provide a sensory assessment for patients prior to their first swim in order to gauge gravitational insecurities or tactile processing issues.) The unique paddlewheel technology created by SwimEx offers the widest, smoothest, deepest and strongest water counter current in the industry. The paddlewheel “pulls” the water rather than pushes, and generates a smooth wall of water extending up to 30 inches (76cm) in depth.

“Building that sense of security and comfort is necessary before we can start working with other skills in the pool. Therapy in the water also helps by providing a fun environment were the kids work hard without “knowing” they are. For most patients with body awareness limitations or those who need deep and/or proprioceptive input to be sensory organized, the movement in the water as well as the effort they have to put to complete their exercises improves and helps meet these needs,” says Garcia.

The findings from clinical studies suggest that clinicians are observing multiple benefits from the use of aquatic therapy for children with an ASD in many areas of function, which provides support for the use of aquatic therapy as an effective treatment option. Results of increased swim skills, motor skills, social skills, and water safety, as well as decreases in sensitivity to sensory stimuli are similar to the findings of Vonder Hulls et al. (2006) (Source)

McLain says the SwimEx pool offers a variety of features that traditional pools lack, “The aquatic environment provides a different and varying sensory environment for children with sensory integration difficulty. The colored areas for different floor heights are also good visual cues for children with difficulty following complex directions and enable them to work on agility and coordination with less assistance from the therapist.”

Fall River, Mass – “This is just like having a spa in your house!” Karen Hurvitz is another happy SwimEx customer. She recently installed a swim spa in her new Concord, Massachusetts home. “It keeps you in shape. I use it every day,” says Karen.

Her first experience with a swim-in-place pool was during a visit to Hong Kong fifteen years ago, “I loved it!” But back home, Karen had a tough time incorporating swimming into her daily exercise routine. ”I didn’t like going to the gym pool or dealing with dirty locker rooms. Meanwhile, the town’s public didn’t offer many open swim hours.”

Frustrated with limited lap pool options, she started researching in-home therapy pools. Karen says SwimEx was the most appealing brand due to its quality and smooth current, “one of the advantages with a SwimEx was the quality and the width of the current. Another plus, I don’t have to bother with a lot of harsh chemicals and ventilation.”

Aquatic therapy paid off quickly for Karen after she tore her (ACL) anterior cruciate ligament during a skiing accident. Tears almost always require surgery, but Karen was determined to avoid going under the knife, “I decided not to undergo surgery and rehab it. I found that swimming exercised it enough and my leg felt really good.”

Today, she alternates her daily swim with her favorite exercises: breaststroke, freestyle and running. According to Vice President of Sales Suzanne Marchetti, she joins the growing number of retired homeowners turning to SwimEx for a stress-free workout.

Because she loves her SwimEx so much, Karen recently purchased her second pool and installed it in her new home.

Fall River, Mass – Salt Lake Community College, located in Utah, has integrated a SwimEx therapy pool into their physical therapist assistant program. This program enables students to get hands on aquatic therapy training while providing state-of-the-art care to patients at the school’s pro bono clinic.

The Salt Lake Community College Physical Therapist Assistant program utilizes the pool in the following ways:

Student instruction for both physical therapist assistant and occupational therapy assistant students

Aquatic therapy interventions for the pro bono on-site clinic physical therapy patients.

Program Director Diana Ploeger says the SwimEx pool is a great teaching resource and enables uninsured patients to receive high-tech care, “students appreciate the opportunity to implement what they have learned in class through individual practice and providing aquatic therapy interventions under the direct supervision of a physical therapist. Physical therapy clinic patients are pleased with the opportunity to receive treatments utilizing aquatic therapy as well as land-based techniques.”
“The pool is used in a variety of ways to meet the individual needs of patients who are served by the pro bono clinic. For a back patient, the deep end is utilized with some ankle weights and swim noodle in order to provide gentle spinal distraction. For bariatric clients, the pool is utilized for aerobic exercise with less weight bearing on lower extremity joints. For a patient with balance issues, the water and some resistance provides challenges not possible during land-based therapy.”

Fall River, Mass. – A routine bone density test showed that 62-year-old Rebecca Pinckney was suffering from osteoporosis, a common type of bone disease that affects 1 out of 5 American women over the age of 50. “You don’t even know that you have it until you have a bone density test,” says Rebecca. Doctors urged Rebecca to try medication and exercise to help strengthen her bones. Meanwhile, her and husband tried to devise a workout program that would fit their lifestyle, “as far as aerobic exercise, we tried cycling and running but swimming was hands down over everything else.”

The Pinckney couple decided to install a 600s SwimEx pool outside their Atlanta home, enabling Rebecca to incorporate swimming into her daily exercise routine, “I needed some resistance training wonderful for upper body. This is excellent for aerobic therapy and great for just overall health. I love to swim.”

According to LiveStrong.com swimming is a great alternative to traditional workouts, “Swimming represents the safest form of whole-body exercise for people with osteoporosis and is ideal for those who are recovering from fractures, as well as for those with joint and muscle weakness, since your risk for falling is minimal. The aerobic activity increases the function of your cardiovascular system and improves your mood, because your body releases endorphins–sometimes called natural painkillers. Swimming burns calories, which allows you to lose weight even during periods of reduced mobility. Water exercise also increases your stamina, so you’ll have more energy to perform daily activities that can often be difficult for those who suffer from osteoporosis.”

Although the installation process had its challenges, Rebecca and her husband Fred were determined to create a perfect swim oasis in their picturesque backyard. “The setting was a bit unusual and it required a crane to lift the pool over our hills and onto the deck – it was a lot of fun to watch the process. The builder and architect we used caught the vision. We love it.”

Two years after Rebecca began her osteoporosis treatment, her condition has improved drastically. She credits SwimEx for helping her get her body back on track, “swimming has been a wonderful contributing factor. In the pool, I can use free weights to draw circles through the arms, use resistance bands, or just play some music in my CD player and practice strokes.”

Fall River,Mass.- The YMCA Healthy Living Center, located in Clive, Iowa, is on the leading edge of providing “medically integrated” programs in a unique healing environment. The center, which serves over 66,000, installed a 1000T SwimEx pool to provide a wider array of therapy options for patients. According to Medical Director Trina Radske-Suchan, “seeing the results from YMCA patients using the SwimEx pool has been a great motivator for my staff to keep doing what they are doing.”

Since the pool has been installed, the medical team has been encouraged by the progress of its patients. Radske-Suchan says many have seen improvements in overall health, “we have a cancer patient who was using a walker and very frail after treatment. She is coming to the pool three to five times a week with the goal of getting stronger. We devised an independent water program she can continue on her own. She is working to build strength and flexibility.”

The large 1000T offers therapists the option of offering multi-patient therapy and group classes. The integrated motorized treadmill combined with the superior laminar flow also provides great flexibility for personalizing workouts.

The YMCA Healthy Living Centerhas also promoted the benefits of water therapy on its website: “For many years, physical therapists have seen the benefits of aquatic therapy. As well as treating patients with orthopedic injuries and chronic pain, aquatic physical therapy is also an effective treatment for post-surgical patients, neurological patients, post-partum patients, cancer patients suffering from painful joints and muscles and athlete rehabilitation.” (source: www.ymcahealthylivingcenter.com)

“Using the SwimEx pool validates what we are able to do for patients. When we see success stories we can pass it along and be able to empower and motivate others. It has been a learning experience for my staff to see people truly benefit from what they are doing and inspire others,” says Radske-Suchan.

Fall River, Mass – This season, the New England Patriots offensive line just got a bit stronger. Thomas Austin (#68) is returning to the field following a speedy three-month recovery from foot surgery. In a video interview with SwimEx, the 24-year-old credits water rehabilitation for providing a fast-moving healing process that has helped his ankle return to its pre-surgery strength.

The offensive lineman says he has tried aquatic therapy in the past, but found better results with the state-of-the-art SwimEx pool, “any pools I have been in before might have a current or treadmill – and that’s about it. With this pool, to be able to have a ramp, and four, five or six feet of depth, and the stairs with rails, it allows you to do a lot more stuff. And with me, I weigh 300 pounds, so it is nice. It is lower impact and I can do it more frequently.”

Austin says his foot problems began after suffering a high ankle sprain while playing football at Clemson University. Ever since, he started to develop painful bone spurs in his joint. “It just got worse and worse every year,” says Austin. Once he turned pro, the athletic trainers for the New England Patriots encouraged him to remove the spur and scar tissue for good.

Following surgery in January 2011, he immediately started rehabilitation at a local hospital. “When he first came to the clinic his motion was limited. We got him into the pool and started working his range of motion and strength as much as we could with jumping on the treadmill, running against the current and using the pool as much as we could.,” says physical therapist Jaeson Kawadler.

Kawadler says pool therapy can offer great results for professional athletes, and has helped Austin make remarkable progress following surgery, “now his range of motion is excellent and the pool really helped us get us to the stage we are at in a quicker time period.”

Fall River, Mass – It took Michele Kay over thirty years, but she has finally discovered a healing treatment to help ease her aching legs: SwimEx aquatic therapy. “The only thing that I have found is the pool is great. It has been life changing. I have taken many steps in the pool. It was not just in my legs where I saw progress, but my overall health. It has been amazing what I have been able to accomplish,” says Kay.

Michelle’s health problems began when she was 13 years old, “my knee cap would go out while playing basketball and doctors said I needed surgery.” But the surgery backfired when Michelle continued to grow another 1 ½ inches through her teen years, “that led to subsequently 27 knee surgeries, a shattered femur and received two nerve stimulators.”

At 47 year old, doctors delivered another blow to Kay, informing her that not only would she continue to suffer with knee problems but deteriorating joint disease. To make matters worse, additional surgeries would no longer be an option and she was facing the possibly of spending the rest of her life in a wheelchair. “I thought, this is just a mess. I’m a single mom of five kids, none of this is acceptable,” says Kay.

The devastating prognosis motivated her to act. She realized how much she enjoyed being in a pool during the summer months and thought aquatic therapy might be an option. She was thrilled to find a SwimEx therapeutic pool only one mile from her home located in Foxboro, Massachusetts.

Since starting aquatic therapy in the SwimEx pool, she has noticed a great improvement in her mobility. But the effects went well beyond soothing her achy knees, “I feel less depressed and the ability to exercise got me off high blood pressure medicine. I have had therapy for over thirty years and I have had pool therapy (sitting in a tub) but I have never had therapy this way before. It has changed my life.”
