Oakland University’s Golden Grizzlies play hard and train hard. A hydrotherapy pool helps them stay in the game and win. Here’s a look at their athletic training room.
Founded in 1959, the Oakland is located in Rochester, Michigan. Their training facility is fully equipped with a SwimEx 600T series pool. The SwimEx can be used during all stages of rehabilitation. It provides a medium for safe and effective progression from non-weight bearing activities to full weight bearing. The SwimEx is an excellent means of maintaining or enhancing cardiovascular fitness without placing added stress on the injured body part.
The pool, features eight work stations, including plyometric pads, benches and steps for both open and closed kinetic chain exercises, an angled running platform and a deep water running well. The SwimEx features two underwater observation windows to allow for analysis of technique.
The 3,300 gallon pool circulates up to 30,000 gallons of water per minute depending on speed. The paddle wheel design gives the SwimEx a unique “Wall of Water” flow. The Wall of Water enables athletes to run, walk, swim or exercise with minimal stress on the body. It also allows for dynamic use of muscles through the full range of motion and gives the athlete the ability to simulate sport specific activity with a reduced risk of injury.
The Oakland Golden Grizzly Athletic Performance team aims to create a welcoming, efficient, and forward thinking environment for the student athletes at Oakland. The team consists of licensed athletic trainers, certified strength and conditioning coaches, and other allied health professionals, working alongside physicians, administrators, scientists, and counselors who all utilize their expertise to take a holistic view of the student athlete and increase the health, wellness, and athletic performance of each student-athlete.
The goal of Athletic Performance Team is to provide student-athletes with first-class healthcare services, training, and programs to achieve maximal performance and optimal health. We also strive to enable the student-athletes to reach their fullest potential socially, academically, and athletically by helping to instill a hard work ethic, develop leadership qualities, and improve their physiological state. These qualities as well as integrity and discipline will allow student-athletes to excel and succeed not only on the field, but also in the classroom and community.
