Active Aging Week

April 30, 2016 / by

Join us with Active Aging Week as we celebrate older adults and the health benefits associated with active living at any age. This year SwimEx is proud to sponsor Active Aging Week, an initiative created by the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) to be held September 27-October 3.

Since 2003 this week-long campaign has showcased positive role models and offered activities to older adults that help them continue to be fully participating members of society. According to the ICAA, Active Aging Week challenges society’s diminished expectations

senior living of aging by showing that regardless of age or health conditions adults over 50 can live a full life in every way — physical, social, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, vocational and environmental.

To get involved, organizations that have an age-friendly atmosphere simply need to offer free-of-charge wellness activities or exercise programs that are safe, friendly and fun. Examples of activities and resources can be found on the Active Aging website. They include group walks, group exercise classes, Yog

a, Pilates, tennis or golf games, and much more. Be sure to click on the SwimEx link for specific aquatic exercises to stay active using the power of water.

We encourage everyone to participate and embrace this positive approach to change the way we age.
