The SwimEx DepthSelect™ Series
Adjustable Depth Therapy Pool Design for Staged Progression and Full Pool Use
The DepthSelect Series adds adjustable depth within the treadmill zone to support staged, weight-bearing progression, while preserving paddlewheel current and multiple water depths across the rest of the pool. For rehab, sports medicine, senior living, and mixed-use facilities, DepthSelect creates a variable depth therapy pool environment where progression happens where it’s needed without taking the rest of the pool offline.

Targeted progression
Support staged rehab, weight-bearing progression, and return-to-play protocols within a single session. The adjustable treadmill zone allows clinicians, trainers, and performance teams to change water depth based on the user’s stage of recovery, mobility, or conditioning goal.
Disruption-free
No need to change the entire pool environment to support one user. Unlike systems that rely on full-floor movement, the DepthSelect Series focuses adjustability where progression is needed while preserving the rest of the pool for other programming.
Full pool usability
Other users can continue conditioning, recovery, aquatic therapy, or group work at the same time. The pool remains useful for multiple people, multiple depths, and multiple program goals within the same session window.
Diverse patient population
Localized adjustability supports diverse users while keeping full pool access for others, without the need for full floor movement. This system provides the exact buoyancy needed for users of different heights, from a gymnast and basketball player to pediatric and adult patients.
Built for the way programs work.
Real programs aren’t simple. They require progression, flexibility, and the ability to support multiple users at the same time. By focusing adjustability within the treadmill zone, the DepthSelect Series enables staged progression without altering the rest of the pool environment so multiple users can complete their programs without disruption.
Designed for real-world use.
The DepthSelect Series is built for programs that serve varied users with varied needs, at the same time.
- Sports medicine and performance programs- Support return-to-play progression, athletic recovery, underwater treadmill training, and daily conditioning in one therapy pool environment.
- Hospitals and outpatient rehab centers – Create an adjustable depth therapy pool environment for patients at multiple stages of recovery, from early weight-bearing progression to broader aquatic therapy protocols.
- Senior living communities – Support residents across a range of mobility levels with adaptable water depth, low-impact movement, group wellness, and confidence-building aquatic exercise.
- Mixed-use facilities – Give one pool the ability to serve rehabilitation, performance, recovery, wellness, and group programming without sacrificing daily usability.

DepthSelect FAQs
What is the SwimEx DepthSelect Series?
The DepthSelect Series is a new engineering approach designed to deliver localized depth progression within a dedicated treadmill zone. Unlike systems that alter the entire pool environment, this series allows for staged weight-bearing progression while preserving the paddlewheel current and multiple water depths across the rest of the pool for other users. The SwimEx DepthSelect Series is an adjustable depth therapy pool solution that provides targeted depth control within the underwater treadmill zone. This allows facilities to support staged weight-bearing progression for rehab, return-to-play, and mobility work while keeping the rest of the pool available for swimming, resistance training, aquatic therapy, or group exercise.
How does the DepthSelect Series differ from a moveable pool floor?
Traditional moveable pool floor systems often adjust the depth of the entire pool floor, which can force every user to a single depth and create scheduling bottlenecks. The DepthSelect Series offers a smarter way to deliver an adjustable depth pool by focusing progression specifically within the treadmill zone, without the need for full floor movement. This allows users to support precise return-to-play or therapy protocols while preserving the paddlewheel current and multiple water depths across the rest of the pool for other users simultaneously.
Can a therapy pool with an underwater treadmill support more than one user at a time?
Yes. Because the DepthSelect Series focuses on adjustability specifically within the treadmill zone, it supports a highly efficient circuit-style training and therapy environment. While one user works through a staged weight-bearing protocol on the treadmill, others can simultaneously utilize the paddlewheel current and multiple water depths in the rest of the pool. Unlike systems that require full floor movement and force every user to a single depth, this design allows multiple programs to run at once in the same session window without disruption.
What are the maintenance and operational advantages of the DepthSelect Series?
The DepthSelect Series is built for operational continuity. Because it utilizes a water-holding tank system and fewer moving parts than full-lift floors, it is designed for long-term reliability and simplicity. Most importantly, you can service the treadmill via a separate drain without the need to drain the entire pool or halt therapy programs in the rest of the pool.
Does a pool with DepthSelect require a large pool footprint?
No. A common misconception is that programmable depth requires a significant increase in square footage. The DepthSelect Series integrates this capability into the same compact, efficient footprint of our standard high-performance therapy pools, including the 1500 T and the 1000 T, making it a viable option for facilities where space is at a premium.
Which environments is the DepthSelect Series designed for?
This series is ideal for mixed-use aquatic facilities that require both precise progression and sustained versatility:
- Athletics: For staged return-to-play protocols that don’t slow down the rest of the team’s training schedule.
- Healthcare: For clinical teams that need precise weight-bearing control without sacrificing the pool’s availability for other patients.
- Senior Living: To support residents at varying mobility levels, from individualized rehab to group wellness classes, in the same session window.
Is the DepthSelect Series available for existing pools?
No. The DepthSelect Series is available for new pool installations only.
What resources are available for architects who need to account for a DepthSelect Series pool in their preliminary drawings?
For new construction or renovation projects, SwimEx can provide architectural specifications and rough dimensions early in the planning process. This helps architects, designers, and facility teams reserve the right space for a DepthSelect Series pool before final drawings are developed.
Can you use the adjustable water depth area without the treadmill?
Yes! The treadmill has removable handrails which allows for this space to be used for protocols that don’t include running or walking. There are also 4’ and 5’ deep platforms in this area that can be used for a variety of exercises.
What is the size of the underwater treadmill?
The standard width is 24” and is available in 4’,5’ and 6’ lengths
Why does targeted adjustable depth matter for busy therapy or athletic facilities?
Targeted adjustable depth helps facilities progress one user through a specific rehab or return-to-play protocol without taking the entire pool out of use. For athletic programs, clinics, and senior living communities, this can reduce scheduling bottlenecks, support more users in the same session window, and make the pool more useful throughout the day.
